GUY ARNOUX 1886 - 1951
Guy Arnoux was born in Paris in 1886. He grew up in an environment conducive to artistic development on the
family property at Ardon, in the Loiret. From an early age, Guy developed a keen interest in drawing and painting, which he cultivated throughout his youth. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he acquired a solid classical training, but it was in illustration that he found his calling. He specialized in creating illustrations for books, posters, and magazines, as well as designs for ocean liners, scarves, and other items, becoming one of the most sought-after artists of his time in the field of illustration. His technique combined modernity and tradition, drawing inspiration from both medieval miniatures and Japanese prints, while also reflecting the emerging Art Deco style.
His illustrations, often express an heroic and nationalistic spirit, reflect the atmosphere of the time.
During World War I, Guy Arnoux produced several patriotic works celebrating the bravery of French soldiers.
Today, Guy Arnoux is recognized as one of the great French illustrators of the 20th century.
His works are preserved in numerous public and private collections,
and his illustrated books continue to be prized by collectors.
